| Hello
there, We would like to thank all our friends, family, Fish fans, Frank fans and complete strangers who pulled together to support our fantastic fund raising wedding party. Due to Frank's heart attack on 17th Dec we decided to marry at the earliest opportunity. He underwent an angioplasty on Christmas Eve and returned home, wonderfully repaired on Christmas Day. Had it not been for the expertise of Dr. Collin, the marvelous abilities of the paramedics, the staff at BGH, The Royal Infirmary and the skills of the surgeons, who knows what might have happened. This is really what inspired us to give something back. The British Heart Foundation have enabled research and training to equip all these saviours with the ability to carry out such life saving procedures. Thanks to all, Frank lived. However, had things been different and he hadn't survived, there would have been an enormous 'turn out' for his funeral. Many musicians, along with life long friends and family would have turned up. So, we decided to host a party to celebrate both Frank being alive and our impromptu wedding. Our first thought was to charge £5 a ticket. This wasn't easy, asking folk to pay to come to our 'wedding reception'. We had to keep telling ourselves that it was for a good cause. Much to our amazement the tickets sold out in three days! It was becoming very clear that everyone was behind us, eager to support our project. Then the snowball started to roll. The 'Fish' fans got word of the news and a link was immediately set up on the 'Fish' web site linking directly to The British Heart Foundation. Fans from all over the world have notched up a fantastic sum of £370 to date, thank you. Fans even bought 'virtual' tickets. We have received many cheques inside wedding cards from friends from near and afar totaling over £300, thank you. On realising how keen people were, it seemed a good idea to incorporate a raffle. This was suggested by myself, somewhat tongue in cheek. I felt we had asked enough already. However, the most generous raffle prizes came flooding in, thank you. I could now see the potential of this event. Everyone was told not to give any cards or presents, just bring loads of dosh. We had a treasure hunt, guess how many sweets in the jar and an incredibly fruitful auction. Pizza and cake were snapped up at £1 a slice! The entertainment was awesome, featuring class musicians including Rob Howell, Seorus and Tommy, Colin Hood, Conor McAffee, Allie Fox and The Border Boogie Band raising the roof at the end of the evening. The highlight of the evening was legend John Renbourn who kindly came to Peebles Registrar's Office and played 'The Earl of Salisbury' during the ceremony. Thank you John. So, all that remains for me to do is to thank all of you for caring and giving. What goes round comes round and you proved it. I thank my daughters Lizzie and Sara, my sister Sally, grandchildren Max and Harvey (who at the age of five proved to be charming waiters and bankers) Paul, Lucy, Rosie and Morgan, they made it happen and run so smoothly at very short notice. Lizzie managed to charm a fortune from everyone amassing over £1500 on the night. Total over £2000 so far! For all those who couldn't get a ticket and those who might be keen enough to come along again, we will have another event. Send e-mail to soodoob@aol.com and I will keep you posted. Our heartfelt thanks to all of you. Sue and Frank Usher |
